Well, how long are you waiting before you get the car painted? Do you have access to a paint gun and a compressor and stuff or are you looking for a spray can? Anything is better than bare metal. I am in the process of cleaning up my 83 and I have a whoe quarter panel sprayed in the cheap Brite touch primer rattle cans. But my car is sitting in a garage in Texas so I don't have as much humidity and snow as most of the US. I havn't had any rust so far on the areas that I have done and its been sitting there for the last year and a half while I was in Iraq. But it will be resanded before I go for real paint. An epoxy primer would work great just be sure to clean the area you are painting really well. A paint job is all in the prep.
