Default Oil Pressure Questions

I have a high mileage 5.0 that has had the common oil pressure fluctations. I put 20 50 in it and that seemed to help a little, but the problem still happens occasionally. I'm going to hook a mechanical gauge up to it soon to check and see if its the stock gauge thats the issue.

Would I know if I'm not getting oil pressure at certain times? Wouldn't the car run like crap from having no pressure for the short stints? The car runs strong and idles good right around 800-900 rpm. It runs good on the track and the street. Just seeing if you guys could tell me if I would have seen effects from no oil pressure yet, I dont exactly have the dough for a new bottom end . Thanks.

is that the oil pump, or just high mileage. i havent had to deal w/ these issues yet, so im not 100% sure.

i can say the stock guage is crap. i used 15w 40 for break-in and on stock guage it would read about mid, maby a tad more. i got a mechanical guage and i had like 40psi idle and 60 at wot.
no oil and you would hear loud clacking. most of the time u have more psi at wot than idle.

i have a sunpro mechanical, only put idk like maby 10 miles on it-long story, but i put the guage in, drove it and the tranny died on me, so i just got the motor and tranny in car today
but i bought a set of autometers so everything matched. u could have it for $10 plus the shipping. i payed $20 for it at autozone i believe.

If its moving up and down and going to zero try the oil pressure sending unit. Mine did it all the time when I first bought it but never sounded like it lost oil pressure. I put a new sending unit in and now it reads in the middle of the gauge and even goes up when I get into it... Everyone keep telling me my rings were bad and the motor was worn out.

what you need to do it get a mechanical gauge and hook it it there and get a true reading/ baseline...and compare readings to spec.....cause the spec will have a number listed not letters.....so get a true reading and go from there..it may just be a bad sending unit..or wear on the bearings
