Default distributor question

i had a early 80's 5.0 model motor blow,it had regular cam carb motor, i got a new 89 fuel injection motor with roller cam that came with that year
im making a 89 carb motor but need to use distributor from early 80's model when i compared the two the shaft under the gear was a half inch longer on the 89 distributor than the early 80's model distributor is this going to be a problem with the oil pump shaft maybe not reaching

please help

Default RE: distributor question

what you need to get is a duraspark distributor from a 85 gt 5 speed car that'll have the steel gear on the dizzy needed for roller cam applications.....you can order a reman dizzy at your local parts store and use a 85 gt 5speed with steel gear as your year make and model to order the correct replacement one...and order a duraspark ignition box and coil and for under a 100 dollars you'll have a working ignition system..i USED that set up on my 85 up until recent and ran low 12's N/A until I converted to msd with the install of NOS
