smog canister
im sure your tired of reading about smog pump uninstalls but im curious about the canister. i done a search, but couldnt really find what i was needing. i know i can remove it but there is a few things about it i dont know what to do with.
one of the lines coming out of the canister has been cut and blocked off. on that line there is some sort of sensor on it following the wires it takes me to the ect sensor area. out of the wire loom the plugin for the ect sensor is there along with the plugin that goes to this sensor i dont know about. can it just be unpluged and ditched or do i need to do something with it.
the other line coming out of it appears to go to the gas tank. i belive its the same line that i cut a couple of weeks ago when i had a freak accident with a plasma cutter. would it be safe to just plug that line up or would that cause some sort of vaporlock or anything with the fuel tank? only reason i ask that is because my dad had an old car that he cut and plugged a line and it caused the tank to build up pressure or vacume or something and he couldnt put gas into it because the pump would shut off thinking it was full. he had to shake the back of the car while pumping gas.
sorry for the stupid and annoying questions, but i dont know the answers and cant seem to figure it out.
thanks

RE: smog canister
i have the line going to the ect sensor area off. i just plugged the hole but i left the other line that goes to the fuel tank on there. it didnt mess my car up at all and i just put electrical tape on the plug

RE: smog canister
I pulled the whole assembly off as it wreaked of gas smell. I just unplugged the connector by the ECT sensor, and left the small hose open going to the gas tank. That hose is the gas tank vent, you can either leave it open, or plug it and get a "vented" gas cap. If you plug it without the vented gas cap you risk building pressure in the tank and having problems much like your dad. He can also benefit from a vented gas cap, they are readily available in the parts store.

RE: smog canister
the smog canister is located on the passenger side fenderwell close to the radiator. here is a link to what they look like 50resto smog canister i didnt realize someone would pay that much for one. i guess if you needed it you would though. mabey i should throw mine on ebay
i may just hide it somewhere and leave it unplugged. my dad ended up just using an old rag laying around the shop for a gas cap when he had his problem. that was many years ago and it was just an old junker he used to haul car parts, tires, or whatever he needed.
thanks for the replies. i guess i can go and start tearing it apart.
