Gaining 60 hp's
So my car is pretty much a stock 91 gt and im looking to gain about 60 horsepower (or more) and was wondering some suggestions on what to look into getting. I do want to mod my car but i also want to beat this jerks 94 lt1 camaro thats got about 50 hp on me.
Im also not really into the idea of NOS so thats counted out |

How much do you want to spend? Bolt on a set of Trick Flow TW or AFR 165s will give you about what you are looking for.

Get a really nice set of heads and an aftermarket intake with a new exhaust setup that should do it. Even though you don't like the idea of nitrous that is going to be the cheapest way to do it if you're on a budget.

altough it wont add any HP, a set of gears will go a long way in the pursuit of kicking the LT's ass

I beat my buddys 1996 Trans Am wich had an LT1 with a GT-40 intake port and polished, 373 gears, CAI, underdrive pullys with full exhaust we went from a 15-20 roll and I pulled 2 cars on him hope that helps.

Your budget has a lot to do with it but ideally you'll want gears with a head/cam/intake swap and a dynotune.

when i put gt40 heads, bbk shortys, 3 inch exhaust into some flows i dynod 63 horses over stock

i had full exhuast, 3.73 gears, and underdrive pullies and I was door to door with a 97 T/A that was bone stock if that helps

oh, and just for the record so you clear on this, just because he has 50 HP on you and you add 60 HP to your car, doesnt really mean you are automatically faster. there is so much more that goes into consideration such as the rear gearing, the transmission, how big your tires are, how much your cars both weigh, etc etc

well stock for stock, i beat my friend's 94 z28 with the lt1. he had the auto i have a manual, he wanted a 40 roll so i dropped 2nd.
a set of trick flow heads, afr heads, something along those lines are pretty good, also an intake and cam. then move to the rear gears, if you have a auto you should have 3.27 gears out back so you could get some bigger ones, if you like your gas mileage, then you could do 3.55's or maybe 3.73's |

arnt stick 5.0s with gears and some minor exhaust and intake work good from a roll.

Hell yeah! My dad did his share of street racing and that was the trick, either have a small block and know how to make it leave on small bias ply tires or have a big block that would suck the windows out of your opponent on the big end! Most races are won, even at the dragstrip in the first 60'.

FLcracker, I with ya too!!!! Old Fart. Back then I ran a 68 Mercury Cylcone 428 and a 73 Pontiac Grand Prix 455. We would take the light in front of the Naval Air Station in Belle Chase, LA. 4 lanes with a straight shot for miles. I had my share of wins and losses. No one could touch a LITTLE AMC Gremlin for years. Bad ass little car. My best win was over a Super Bee with my Pontiac on New years night. Spent that night in the pokey. Yup we got caught.
We also had and old runway on the base we used on Saturday nights, kinda like PINKS style. 8000 feet of freedom. Back then you could buy retreads (yup retreads!!!!!) with just about any compound you wanted for cheap. We had no problems making it stick. A rolling start then was for the "GIRLS". youll have your hands full with a LT1. id set your car up to run from a dig. the LT motors breathe well with there good heads and will pull you on the topend with there airflow and displacement. id take weight out, put a stall in if your auto, sticky tires, gears and a set of heads would wake up your 5.0 to hang with a stock LT1 from a dig to say 90 MPH then the LT1 will start coming on pretty hard. GL with whatever combo you choose.

hell believe it or not on the dyno i gained 60 rwhp from cleaning my mass air meter i no this is not your case just thought i would share. if i were you i would do hci
