Default 73mm Single Piston Caliper Question

I am looking to upgrade my stock 88 GT and am not looking to convert to 5 lug or 4 wheel disc right now. I am looking at getting the 73mm single piston caliper (Part numbers: Left caliper : R55247S , Right caliper: R55246S) that came on the 84-86 SVO. I read somewhere though that this was not a recommended upgrade for vehicles with the rear drums. Can someone shed some light on this either way. I am just looking for some better stopping power without converting to 5 lug.

It's ok as long as you upgrade the master cylinder too.
I think those same calipers came off Lincolns too.

www.SN95brakes.com has some great info and parts for Mustang brake upgrades.

So I would need to upgrade the Master Cylinder? Yeah, actually sn95brakes is where I saw the recommendation. When you go to maximum motorsports website and look at the pistons though, they say not recommended with rear drums.

Thanks man. I take it the SVO unit would work as well for my swap? I also want to verify that this will not require me to change the booster.

I had the upgrade on my 87 when I bought it with 4 lug and rear drum. They work fine and is a nice upgrade. You DO NOT HAVE TO CHANGE THE MASTER CYLINDER. That would only be necessary if you convert to rear disc also, and even that I question from personal experience.

www.sn95brakes.com is pretty good for anyone who wants to upgrade the Fox brakes but doesn't have a lot of $$$ or is doing a little at a time.
