Default Looking to confirm Tranny issue

1991 GT, 5 speed manual

When driving slow (40-) shifting in all gears is fine.

When driving at higher speeds (50+) shifting into 3rd grinds. I've been told it's the syncros but why would it not grind in 3rd if cruising? [>:]

the synchros have to grab a face on a gear to bring that gear(and the output shaft its attached to) up to speed with the input shaft speed. If its worn, it wont grip it and match speeds fast enough. the faster u go the harder it has to work.

So ... it is the syncros? Should I rebuild the tranny to replace it?

No no ... I wasn't suggesting that I would rebuild it myself. I was asking if I should get it rebuilt or to purchase another. I'll take your suggestion and shop around for the best deal.

Thanks dude!
