Electric fan HELP!!!

Electric fan HELP!!!
I have a 87 mustang gt. It has an electric fan in it that came out of something else it was in it when i got it. It kept blowing fuses but did not have a short. I direct wired it to the battery through a relay with a fuseable link on it and have it hooked up so when i turn the key on the fan comes on. For some reason every once in a while it will melt the fuse in the fuseable link. It starts melting at first then blows it. Anybody know what the problem might be. I got it on a 30 amp relay with a 30 amp fuse

RE: Electric fan HELP!!!
its broke. electric motors are basically a series of dead shorts. if if stays shorted in one spot too long(bearing bad, build up, something) then its gonna draw a lot of current. unless u just have really small wires running to bigger wires....but you wouldnt do that right?

RE: Electric fan HELP!!!
Na the wires are same size all the way basically. The wires that go from the inside of the car to the relay that turns the relay on arent small but there not big but that really dont matter they just activate the relay. the wires coming from the fan are the original wires except for about 6 inches which arent that much smaller.

RE: Electric fan HELP!!!
as long as the supply wires are bigger than the original fan wires, and not vice versa. there is a 14.5 inch straight blade fan rated at 2000 cfms for sale on ebay for like 30 bucks. but it will be loud as hell. try to get one with curved blades

You might want to also check and see how much current is being drawn while the fan is running. It might be right at the limit of the fuse and heating it up to the point of breakage.
