Default worst case scenario?

I race my mustang any chance i get. i usually run myy 66 with an automatic/ the other decide i decided to let my 89 5.0 verte stretch its legs. i know i revved the engine to high in first. my tach hit 7,000 rpm for split second in first gear. i have done this 2 times so far. what should i look at to make sure i am not hurtinf my motor? i normally don't run it up past 4500 rpm. how bad is it for my 5.0 to hit 7000rpm?

i have hit 7000 with mine several times, i dont know why but the rev limiter works sometimes ( i think at 6250) and sometimes it doesnt. If you are that concerned get a MSD 6AL box and put in a 6000 pill (or whatever you want) and it wont rev any higher than that. Plus, MSD makes a nice diffrence in performance.

Well, technically they say 6000 is pretty dangerous, but I don't think a few occassional spikes will do anything. Not to mention, if anything went wrong because of it, you would probably know it right away, lol.

The stock 5.0 can take 5000 no problem, but you begin to lose power after that. One question: How do you accidently hit 7000 RPM! After a new cam, the engine is capable of much higher RPM's.. After 1.7's 5300-5500 is about max.

When you hit high RPM's like 6000+ you will see your water temp shoot up for a few seconds, but then begins to drop, like previously stated, if you hurt anything, you would know it right away. Don't freak.

6,200 rpm never hurt my '88 but I have too much gear to go over that in the 1/4 mile so I can't say about 7,000.
