Default need to prime oil pump...

have the engine out and put a new oil pump and pickup tube on but i now need to prime it. From what i have read you prime it through undernearth the distributor, butmy distributor is in, so how can i prime the pump. Should i have put oil in it before i installed it, and now that its already on is there any way to get oil up in there. Can i squirt it up through the filter?

Fill your engine up with oil, take off your distributor, get a drill and a primer extension( i just made one) and spin it counter clockwise. To just make a quick one you can use a 1/4" socket and an 1/4" extension with teh recieving end cut off so it will fit in teh drill chuck.

yes, you cant do it with the distributor in, just make marks where the housing is and where the rotor is.

Yeah just mark it, that way you wont put it in wrong. You can take the plug wire off teh coil and spin the motor over, but this is generally frowned upon, becasue you are spinning the motor without oil at first

I know this is not recommended....but my buddy told me one time toprime the oil, simply disconnectthe coil, turn the key.....and crank the motor a few times.

From what my buddy told me, that will cycle the motor without lighting it up.....and in the process, will get the oil flowing through the motor......

What do you guys think? Is that a solution??

If it's not a brand new fresh build you could probably get away with turning it over with coil disc. But i'm trying to figure something out, ifYOU pulled the engine and put in a new oil pump why is pulling the dizzy such a big deal for you? I'm not trying to ridicule you, there is nothing wrong with not being able to do engine work if that is your case. I'm just curious.
