Default stock gt40 valve train w/ trickflow stage 1 cam?

is the stock cobra gt40 valvetrain with stock 1.7's springs etc., ok to use with a trickflow stage one cam. in other words has anyone with a 93-95 cobra installed a tf1 cam with out spring bind issues?

anybody? ---
i can tell that the stock cobra springs are much beefier than the stock gt's, plus the cobra ones have the flat wound springs within the outer coil. does anyone know the bind rate of these?

i wasnt aware of ford using different springs on the cobras but i could be wrong. stock 5.0 springs are a no-go, but it sounds like you have something better than that.

I'm in the same boat you are but my heads already have different springs on them for a b cam that the guy put on. my tuner said that when I get my cam than on the box it will say the spring rate that is needed for the tfs1 cam and that once we have that number we can just test a spring to see it the spring rate is enough.no i don't know how to test the spring rate even if you know the number, sorry, i didn't get that far yet in learning since my heads are still in the mail lol

Suggestion regarding valve train...... when in doubt, remove, test and measure.... if you can't...... replace.

as far as I know... the only company that makes springs that will fit the GT-40 heads is FRPP.

otherwise you run into the same bull**** that Adam ran into with his heads

Not entirely true. Cobras didn't come with an E-cam, but they did have a slightly beefier cam than the stock 5.0s.

Cobra's had a lift of 0.4797 whereas GTs are 0.442. If a Cobra had a stock cam the lift would be 0.4726 with 1.7 rockers. Doesn't sound like much but when half an inch is pretty decent lift (as far as what I have seen on average street cams)those fractions make a difference. I'm not too sure on the duration and other specs though.
