Stock fuel pump

Stock fuel pump
How much power is the stock pump good to? I just installed AFR 185s. Once I get over 4,000 rpms it feels like i'm running out of fuel and then its power goes flat. That was with fuel pressure at 45psi with 19# (I was told they were good to a little over 300HP)injectors, I turned the pressure up to 60psi and it helped a little. Crusing at 70 the power is good as long as you don't get into the throttle to much, when you do it builds power but quickly gets sluggish. Cam is stock and I am getting 24# injectors.

RE: Stock fuel pump
I really don't think injectors may be your whole prob..more so a mismatch of components ...a stock cam really isn't going to be help those 185's reach their full potential amd 165's would of been a better choice for you.......either way upgrading to 24's and a bigger pump will be a benificial upgrade for all the future mods you may have planned

When you replaced the heads, that beat up rusted ground strap on the driver rear head, where is that now, and the other ground strap that is orange?
What is your timing set at and what kind of exhaust sytem ae your running?
What kind of intake manifold?

RE: Stock fuel pump
I just put 24# injectors on and it helped a little. Then I started raising the fuel pressure again and it helped a little more. Intake is a Typhoon and full exhaust with shorty headers. The timing could be off a little because I did it by ear (my friend said he had a timing light but did not). Ground straps are now on the block.

RE: Stock fuel pump
According to the Ford Racing parts catalog ...
... for naturally aspirated engines
Safe "Horsepower Capacity" @ 40 psi with 12V
88 lph = 250 hp
110 lph = 315 hp
155 lph = 440 hp
190 lph = 540 hp
255 lph = 700 hp
Injectors @ 90% duty cycle
19# = 275 hp
24# = 350 hp
30# = 425 hp
36# = 520 hp
No need to go so big that you could never justify using it (i.e. 255 lph pump for a naturally aspirated 5.0L motor).
Good luck!
