I need to fabricate a clutch cable

I need to fabricate a clutch cable
I have a 91 Mustang. I have a competition clutch in it. It takes a lot of pressure to get the clutch engaged. That said the cable busted. It turns out it has been replaced before. (This mustang is new to me) The cable is freyed at the top and whatever was holding it to the clutch pedal busted. I went to Autozone and bought the cable and it looks the same except for the end fittings. The one on my mustang down near the transmission is a threaded piece with a nut on it. That has to be fabricated I am guessing.
The new one will not work. So, I want to keep the cable that is on their but want to put some sort of fitting that will allow me to put it back into the clutch pedal. Where it hooks in at there are 3 maybe 4 slots that you can put it in. But also I don't even know how it is suppose to stay in there. Anyone with info please let me know.
Thanks, Jason

RE: I need to fabricate a clutch cable
The cable that you had was an after-market adjustable cable...that is why the end was threaded...If you have 3 or 4 slots under the dash to connect the cable, then you prob have an after-market clutch quadrant...(I believe the stock only has one way to connect it)
For thenew one, the cable should have no problem hooking under the dash, but it may be too long/short at the tranny...You can solve that by trying each hook under the dash.
If that still does not give you the proper tension, then you can go with either another adjustable cable or a firewall adjuster. As far as fabricating the old one to connect under the dash....I do not think that is a good idea

I have a Ram stage two clutch and my cable busted too. Just go with the ford racing one...its working out fine for me, and is about twice the thickness of the aftermarket one that busted.

the one with the thread is just an ajustable cable. get a BBK cable if you want something heavy duty. the stock cable is not ajustable and is skinnier

We have done a lot of research on clutch cables, buying and testing almost every different cable on the market we could find. We have found after all this investigation, that the OEM Ford Clutch Cables are the best quality cables available. They have a multi-material, layered construction that provides better heat, friction and collapsibility protection than all the aftermarket cables we dissected. With that in mind, we have begun selling all year ranges of factory cables, for those customers that demand a cable that will last.
