exhaust leak after install
So I just installed my Mac Shortys, O/R H, and Mac flowpath catback and it sounds amazing. what a diff from stock
We fired her up sounded good but we heard a leak, first thing we were thinking was header. So after lookin around my friend goes under it and has me hit the throttle, and it coming from where the headers and the midpipe mate. we tried for the life of us trying to get it to sit right but to our dismay, no luck. Its like the midpipe is slightly off. we managed to use a pry bar on it but all we did was fix the drivers side leak and create a passenger side leak. From looking at the H Pipe it doesnt appear to be damaged or bent wrong so how can I fix this. I was going to try loosening the header so it has a little play and then tightening it down to the H pipe then tigthening down the midpipe.
Thoughts?

RE: exhaust leak after install
Thats how i had to install my bbk longtubes and xpipe. I had to leave the headers loose to get the xpipe to line up then i had to tighten the headers. I still have a slight leak thought at the header to xpipe flange but not real bad. I think they make a gasket for that as well.

hmm ya know what that may be the case. I didnt think of it but my mounts are pretty shot.
but I would think with the header trick it would all fall into place anyway. or I could jack up the motor a little to compensate for install.. hmmm

RE: exhaust leak after install
When you install exhaust, its best to start at the headers and work your way down towards the back piece by piece.
header to midpipe - stick it up in there and shake/jostle it around side to side until its fixed in there and not going anywhere AND make sure its parallel with the ground and at the right 'ride height' before you bolt it down....
your hangers prob need to be heated up and bent into the correct position.... so if you haven't expect leaks every 500 miles or when you bottom out....
I would loosen the midpipe to muffler end.... and then do what i said earlier...

RE: exhaust leak after install
The reason i have a leak now is because i had the tranny worked on and they installed the midpipe with the headers bolted on. When i first done the headers i left them loose to hook the midpipe up and i didnt have any leaks, but i didnt get to drive the car much cause of the tranny.
