RE: On the verge of tears...please help
lol i was close to what u did, but i am in training to be a tech, so i wasnt gonna start throwing parts lol
squeaking dizzy w/ over 100k miles, put a new one in, 3min later car dies while idleing, no restart, hot or cold, power going to coil, flashes on power and ground side...but dead battery from cranking. put new tfi module in, so start, pop the old dizzy in, and fires right up w/ fouled plugs!
i was so pissed lol

on OBD 1 there is a way to check codes without a scanner. Usually on OBD 1 cars u can have the computer flash you the codes by jumping a terminal usually somewhere around engine bay. Not sure where this is located on older stangs.

if u dont have cats then the o2 sensors could be the problem to the check engine light, but i was in the same boat, it backfired then it died, i found out that i fouled a plug which causes to much raw fuel (backfiring reason) it ran fine after new plugs, but it still backfires but runs ok, check plugs again~!~

Glad to see you got it squared away. Our shop has been open for about 8 years and in that 8 years we have replaced probably 2 distributors. It's not something you see often and can be often over looked.
