FASTBLACK said exactly what I was thinking...from what I have seen the Patriots arent worth the money..just because someone on a forum says a part is good or bad doesnt make it a fact..alot of bad info is spead everyday..

FIRST of all patriot heads are good for the $$$, look into a recent issue of mm&ff, they made 360 rwhp with those heads on a 331, add 16 cubes and you got some power. Plus I am currently building a 347 stroker and I bought most of my part from JAY ALLEN. 5000$ is not a whole lot of money to play with, i should know as that is what i got my loan for. I am getting ready to put it together and how much have i spent.............10 GRAND, that doesn't include what it will cost to tune either. There are alot of things that go into engine building not just heads cam and a kit. you'll have to get a good exhaust good t/b good maf good intake....etc. by the time you do all that you'll have spent alot more then 5000$. If i were you i would definatly take a look into a pair of patriots. They will do just fine for a guy wishing to get 350 - 375 hp. Call Jay Allen, he will probably set you up with some Trickflows, which are fine but i wouldn't get my hopes up on finishing this project with 5000$.

Canfield makes a good head. I got a good deal on the heads and custom cam from camshaftinnovations.com. fordstrokers.com has good deals on their stroker kits. Do the 347 it will make more power. I get 20+ mpgs with the combo in my sig. The car idles with no bucking and blows the tires when stabed at 1500 rpms in 2nd gear.

Patriot Heads are not worth the money. Ed Curtis and I believe Jay Allan have both looked at these heads separately and what was reported is: There are machining flaws and the valve train parts are worthless. It would cost more to fix these heads with the right parts than buying a good set of heads with the right parts already in them.
Think about it, how can they sell them at such low price? Because they are cutting corners. You get what you pay for. And to Quote Jay Allen: It cost more to do it wrong twice, than to doing it right once.

Listen I'm not saying one head is better than another, I am not saying he should get patriot heads, I AM saying he should look into his options before buying, I've just seen that the patriots made good power with a 331 combo, 5000 will not be enough to complete a Naturally aspirated 400+ hp motor, that is good running and reliable. It may be done if you get everything cheap.

I pointed out they are not worth the money and why. Why spend +$800 on a set of heads that are just cutting it, and when you want to upgrade you have to redue them?Or chancedropping a valve or seat because of the inferior parts and manufacturing.

where abouts are you from? id higly suggest talking to a local machine shop... and if your around md/de/pa... pm me.
im not even saying have the machine shop build it for you, but if their any decent they can tell you what parts to get, and if their like us can get you a custom cam...

you got 5 grand, then by a bbf, you can buy a early 70's d1ve longblock for a couple hundred dollars then buy a comp cams cam, a 850 carb, eddy or motorsport intake and 450 hp no problem, with plenty of money left over to get the proper mounts and tranny.
