yes you can go between 1/2 and one full turn, but ive alwaysheard peoplesay 1/2 turn and thats what ive always set mine at and no problems yet. I was assuming you were talking about stud mount rockers, if they are pedistal mount you should be between 1/4 and 1 turn to reach the torque spec if not you need to shim them

i have always shimed them and torqued them down. then if i can turn the push rod by twisting on it with my thumb and index finder BUT NOT move it up and down then i know im good.
however, when i installed my AFRs i put back in the shims i used with my gt40s and the car was clanking and just noisy as Fart.... i though i shimed them right... guess not.... long story short, i kept taking shims out untill the noise went away. i now have NO shims and have no idea if they lifters are set at the preload or not, i dont really care anymore. the car runs great and everyone i talked to said AFRs are STOCK BOLT ONs and they have no shims either.
