Default Can't get 'er into gear! - help?

Hey there folks,

I just reaquired my old 88GT vert (5 spd manual) and I have a big problem which I humby request your help with....

I cannot get it into gear. It has a brand new Ford Racing clutch kit and a tranny from a wrecking yard. It worked fine the first few days, but now with the engine running, she won't go into any gear, including reverse. With the engine off, I can put it in gear, start it up and release the clutch normally and away she goes, but no shifting up from there. Is this a tranny problem (*gasp*)? clutch cable? fluid? something simple (please!)

I'm new to this site, but look forward to exchanging ideas and information. I'm just not a transmission guy.

Thanks!
Chris

seems like its a clutch adjustment. Are you still using the stock quadrant? If so, you gotta ratchet it back down becuaue it adjusts for wear from the old clutch.

Thanx for the replies folks,

I attempted to adjust the clutch as described in the manual, ie: pulling up on the clutch to allow the pawl and ratchet to do it's thing. No clicking noises heard.

FWIW, the clutch releases right at the floor, so it sounds like it needs adjusting. What now? I am DYING to get my Stang on the road again after 5 years......

How far off the floor is the pedal when the clutch starts engaging.

get an aftermarket aluminum quadrant along with an ajustable cable. that should fix your problems and you can set it however you like

sounds like an adjustment issue.....you need to stick your head under the dash and inspect the quadrant for ant broken pieces and or proper function

UGH. Well, I had a look under the dash but didn't see anything obvious with the quadrant or at the tranny. Cable goes into a box attached to the trans, but do I remove the box to adjust it there? Any specifics on how to adjust the cable? Photos maybe? I have two shop manuals, but they're pretty vague. Thanx for your patience!

Well, it WAS the clutch cable, so I replaced it with a Granatelli Motorsports cable and quadrant kit. 60 bucks later, all is good! Works great!

thanx for all the help folks!
