Default Cobra intake/GT40 tubular

So I have been searching for an intake for my eventual swap on my stock motored '93 GT (heads etc. to follow starting to collect parts). I would love to find a GT40 tublar but they are hard to come by, obviously. I have seen some people starting to assemble packages using the upper from a lightning and a Gt40 lower from an explorer/or a real cobra lower. Would this package work? Is the old style lighting upper manifold the same as the one that ford was selling to fit on the mustang (as far as the EGR hook up etc.)

Also, rather than hunt all these used parts down, I have been toying with the idea of just buying one of the '93 Cobra reproductions from Ford Racing. I have heard some bad things on here about hem, like they have sloppy castings, and they are not the same. Are they really that bad? Does any one have any experience with them? Also, is a EGR plate required on those new style? They seem to have a longer area where the throttle body bolts up, and I have read some conflicting info about this.

Thank you in advance for your help.

In one of the recent issues of muscle mustangs and fast fords, they used one of the cobra reproduction intakes on their stock 5.0, all it has was a cat back and underdrive pullies. when they added the intake, shorty headers, and an x pipe they gained 17 peak hp.

I say go with a Trick Flow upper and lower, just my personal opinion. The GT-40's were great in the era they were developed, but intakes have gotten a lot better for the money.

Just my .02.

Of course, a Kenne Bell tech told me an extrude honed GT-40 lower would flow insane numbers. But he was also trying to sell me a $4000 blower too

For something that was only great in its "era" it has no problem betting the new intakes from idel - 5500RMP http://www.tmossporting.com/tabid/3451/Default.aspx the GT-40 is a good intake.

I have a extrude honed original 93 Cobra Intake and the difference was night and day. But it is very expensive to have it done. I got mine from a friend for $300 for the upper and lower.

lol...disregard my PM

yeah it'll work, there were even gt40 boat motors , tubular intake and everything

** add **

the gt40 tubular is the best intake ever made for the 5.0
maybe something else might flow a little more air....but not enuff to make a diff. the staggered lower is a awesome configuration and responds huge to port work...and i'm sorry...nothing looks as good as an old skool 40 on there.
