Muffler choice?
I just got my car back on the road agian and Im thinking about gettingeither flowmasters, Borla'sor magnaflow mufflers installed this weekend.
As far as sound andperformancegoes what would be my best choice? and would they bolt on to the original pipes? Im looking for a pretty loud intimidating sound. Car is a completley stock 1990 Mustang 5.0 coupe with AOD. |
RE: Muffler choice?
I would go to an exhaust shop/speed shop around your area and ask what is out there that counts as a muffler I know my buddy has something on his truck that looks like a high flow cat converter but counts as a muffler and that thing is ungodly loud.

RE: Muffler choice?
Wouldent happen to be a cherry bomb or SLP loudmouth would it lol?

RE: Muffler choice?
What ever you do don't get flowmasters. I have them on my car and I plan on swapping them out and trashing them. Their a dimea dozen on mustangs and don't provide the bark im looking for out the back. If you really want an intimidating sound go for an o/r h pipe and some shorty headers too.

RE: Muffler choice?
well i for one am a flowmaster guy i have longtube headers an o/r h-pipe and single chamber flows on my stang and it sounds great but if you want a loud exhaust i would deff. go with the SLP Loudmouth i cant say ive heard a louder exhaust system

RE: Muffler choice?
i had ravin mufflers on my 5.0 & sounded great & not that many people have them. you can get them at midas.they are discontinued but they now sell vortex muffler but it is the same thing

RE: Muffler choice?
Honestly, Magnaflows and Borlas are the bane of my existance. I can't stand their exhaust note. Neither of them are loud IMO, so they're out of the question.
Flowmasters, hands down. |
RE: Muffler choice?
you should check out pypes violators, they sound pretty bada$$ and i dont think many people have them.
|
RE: Muffler choice?
borla or flowmaster, i have flows on mine and i love them... they are common, but sound so good i really don't care....
also if you don't have headers or a mid pipe, i suggest you get one to really get the sound you are looking for :D |
RE: Muffler choice?
Right now just looking to get mufflers later on i'll work on the exhaust.
Im trying to keep it street legal aswell. Would I able to use the stock pipes with the flows or would I have to switch? Are the 2 chmaber 40 series flowmaster my best bet for sound? Thanks to everyone for there input. |
RE: Muffler choice?
you can keep the pipes stock but you may need to put an expander on before you get to the mufflers. i personally went with the flowmaster super 44's. they're louder and more aggressive but not as deep sounding. to counterbalance the lack of depth i went with the Mac Pro Chamber mid pipe.

RE: Muffler choice?
shorty bbk headers, o/r h pipe, 3" mac pro dumps =]
|
RE: Muffler choice?
ORIGINAL: 89cobra5.0 shorty bbk headers, o/r h pipe, 3" mac pro dumps =] haha... As for flows, i love the sound of the 40 series,im not sure if they will fit or not, but you can make them fit if they dont haha. And you can try searching youtube for different exhaust set ups... it would sound different in person, but you can get a general idea. |
RE: Muffler choice?
flowmasters delta flow plus offroad h pipe.
|
RE: Muffler choice?
if you want to sound like everything else out there why not put a flowmaster muffler.. because that is exactly what everyone else runs,, honestly i cant stand the sound.. every car truck van, EVERYONE and there DAD has a flowmaster.. try and be different.. get a summit magazine, go through read on the exhaust.. mufflers, get on google, or youtube and listen to some exhaust clips.. but honestly i cant stand flowmaster.. just my 2 cents...
