5.0 in pieces in garage... had 1/2 head gasket... questions
Alright, well I posted a topic before about my 1989 mustang GT 5.0 and told my problems, and you guys verified what I thought was wrong. Head gaskets were bad. So I tore her apart today. man. let me tell you how bad it needs a few gaskets, no wonder the thing burnt antifreeze, oil, and gas. lol
anyway. I have got the upper intake, and the lower intake off, and the head covers, rocker pins ect. I just got the heads off, um, the gasket was pretty much non-exhistant! no warping though.
I just bought the stang so im not very sure of its mechanical history but its my project car.
So... i was wondering if there is a good tutorial on replacing the head gasket just to make sure im on the right track before i put er back together. anything I should do before i put it back together that you would suggest beside gaskets?
should I clean the inside up a lil. its REALLY oily. what about the upper and lower intake. is it safe to clean them inside and out? would this maybe make it run smoother!
Just shoot me what you think a good tip is while putting it back together, or something that I could do while the block is apart beside add performance parts that would be to my benifet for a better running stang!
THANKS!!
Andrew

yes you need to make sure the mating surfaces for all the gaskets are straight and extremley clean and make sure you dont put on the gaskets upside down or backwards and block off the cooling passages
