Default 331 stroker or h/c/i

here is the delima. i have about 3000-3500 to spend on my car and i need to make a educated decision. down the road i would like to have either a 331 or a 347 with aftermarket heads, intake, and all the accessories that come with it. Unfortunatly i don't have enough money to do it all. what should i do or what can i do. can i do the 331 now and use my stock heads and intake? i was thinking of afr 185cc and holley systemax or edlebrock for the intake. but if i just do the hci than i would go with 165cc. i just don't want to buy parts now and then a year from now when i can afford the other half of my setup and have to sell the 165's for 185cc. any info would help. oh and exactly what would i need besides a stroker kit to do the 331, like computer chip etc.... thanks

Do the stroker now, then add a well thought out H/C/I package to it later.

Do not expect a huge increase in power with just the stroker.

Think long term, and not short term.

That is my suggestion.

^ i disagree. You will be fine with the AFR185's if you know your going to stoke it later, you will be givving up a bit of low end torque though. But still with a nice H/C/I swap you will see 300+rwhp then once you save up you can stroke it. I think stroking it with the stock H/C/I is going to be a waste and wont give you much power unless you are upping the compression

Doing just the stroker will give you next to nothing if you keep the stock h/c/i. Just save up another thousand or so and do it all at once. Also trick flow heads are cheaper and just as good afr's. If you are on a budget you could go with gt40p's but they aer not the greatest. Also i hear pro comp makes some decent aluminum heads for about $800 or so.

Stock 302 parts will make stock 302 power.

Id go with the HCI, go ahead and buy the 185's if you are set on AFR's. I went with TF's because they will eventually be on a large inch windsor, and they have greater porting capability.

I would contact Camshaft Innovations and see if you can get a custom cam and Trick Flow head package (designed for the 347), piston to valve clearance will be the concern. Then I would put a Holley Intake with 70-75 mm Throttle Bodywith 24-30 pound injectors on it. And yes you will feal the gain.
