look at your accesories from the side of the car. are all the accesories straight and lined up properly? also when you get your belt installed, push down on it with your thumb. it should flex about a quarter of an inch.

Did you put on underdrive pulleys when you rerouted your belt around the smog pump? If so your belt can be to long and may touch each other. This already happened to me. Hope you get it fixed soon!!

Yep, my guess would be mis-aligned pulleys.

Have you replace the alternator latley?Or upgraded it?I have seen a wrong pulley put on and chew the belt up.Mine had diffrent groves in the pulley and chewed the belt up in no time.

first thing I would recommend is to inspect each and every pulley on the engine. look for any signs of cracks or roughness in the grooves since you say it wears out on the inside of the belt. if any pulley has a rough surface or cracks in the grooves, you need to replace it or you will just eat up another belt. if the pulley all look OK, then check the belt tension to make sure the belt is tight enough so that it ain't slipping on the pulley which will also eat it up on the inside. also check the belt alignment on all the pulleys as mentioned earlier.
