Default transmission rebuild ?'s

my aod has gone out almost completely. It is obvious i need a new one. but i have a few questions. would it be worth it to purchase a new transmission, or re build my old one. It was already poorly rebuild about 60,000 miles ago by previous owner. also, how much does a rebuild cost to have a transmission shop build it? Would they put a shift kit in?
