RE: EFI OR CARBURATED
when the 87 i recieved was bought it was a efi engine the car was made to be carbed. The ****ty 302 was removed to get a all aluminum 302. The motor was blew due to the not made for city driving{the car was a gift to me} I built a 79 351w/40 over put a tourker 2 intake with a edielbrock 675 4 barrel on it and havnt seen a problem yet. The car has close to 400+rwhp but tons&tons or tourke. I love the fact that when i pop the hood you only see 8 spark plug wires and 7 ignition wires/its a mallory ignition

RE: EFI OR CARBURATED
Yeah, I'mm really leaning towards the conversion...I have been crunching the numbers and well let's see..
Upper & Lower intake $500-600
Throttlebody & EGR Spacer $250-300
Mass Air Flow Sensor $150-200
Injectors $200-250
Ingition $200-250
Fuel Pump $150-200
Chip or ECU ????$$$$$
Then havaing to take the car to a shop and have everything calibrated and programmed ????$$$$$
Compared to all parts I just listed
Intake Manifold $150-200
Carburator $300
Fuel Pressure Regulator $100
I have talked to a few people here in Califoprnia that have done the conversion and I have been told pretty much the same thing...Carburated will give tons of torque, but is more reliable...but EFI when it's working right is alot better. I think I'm going to start looking for a 351 and go carburated...

RE: EFI OR CARBURATED
Well, Im going with an Anderson Ford PMS programmer. I have done some research on this unit, the tweecer, AEM, and accel and they all have pro's and con's. IMP the Anderson unit seems like the easiest to use, and you don't need a laptop. It is a little more expensive than the tweecer, $899 as opposed to $450 (thats the tweecer RT which does data logging). But with the tweecer you need to buy a laptop or keep taking it out to plug into you pc. Also there isn't the huge learning curse with the Anderson like with the tweecer, its all on screen and done with pecentages. As far as the AEM and accel they are a full replacement system which means pulling all the wiring and sensors out of the car and replacing them with the aftermarket stuff. And they are $1500 and up, a nice system for a kit car or hot rod conversion but not to rip apart a car that has all the wiring and sensors already just to replace them all. Plus they need a laptop as well so its more money out of pocket, and the learning curve. IMO Anderson nailed it in an all in one kit that is easily programmable with little learning. But again, I am still in the research phase and thats what I am leaning towards, who knows that may change before I make a purchase.
But hey thats just my opinion.

RE: EFI OR CARBURATED
i haven't had a problem out of mine yet...mods on the stang are:
-bored to 306
-bbk lt headers
-bbk short o/r x-pipe
-mac pro dumps
-b-cam
-trickflow track heat manifolds
-76mm MAF
i'd say that's at least a 35-40hp gain at the crank...still drives like a dream, timing at 14*, 91 octane...
