Default C-4 question

i am going with a c-4 in my 393 powered mustang, my problem

i have a friend with a used c-4 he would sell me for $75 it is in need of a rebuild.
i need this tranny to withstand at least 600hp, would it be cheaper to buy this tranny and have it built to withstand my HP requirements,
or would it be better to just buy one already built from PA or redneck.

also the one my friend has is a pan fill, the ones from PA and redneck are case fill. does this matter at all?
will they both fit in my stang? which is better, and why?

thanks

if you can build it yourself your cheaper to do so. that being said, PA has some quality transmissions at a pretty damn good price.

i bought my all my parts from a large seller on ebay and had my buddy who owns a local tranny shop assemble it (paid 100 bucks for assembly), in the end i spent 1000 bucks (counting converter from edge racing) so i saved a little bit but you might not be able to get it built locally for that price

there is no real diff. in the 2 trans other then one is case fill and the other is pan fill there is more room for headers and the bell with the case fills cuz you can run the small 157 tooth bell. but the pan fillso they say is stronger due to the way the case is made. but C-4s don't have case strength problems anyway. PA use to use the pan fills backyears ago. I like the case fill over the pan filljust for the extra roomyou get.

the pan fill is 164 tooth only. You can bolt a small bell on the case fill but it will look strange(but works)and you will need longer pump bolts cuz. the case fill bells bolt to the transusing the pump bolts and the pan fill uses bolt around the case.I ran long tubes with our old pan fill trans before it ate it self up I had to move the o2s to the out side of the collector mine were facing in other then that they worked.

The c4 is the easiest tranny to rebuild from what I hear. I havn't had to do it yet but I have the manual on ford trannies for when I do need to.

They are not to bad to do. yes it will help to have the tool to remove the pressure apply pistons in the clutch packs. Its notjust rebuilding them its knowing what to do to make them last behide high HP motors. But they are strong units and work well from the start so that helps. I would recommend running a reverse manual valve body right from the start. the red clutchs and kelvar bands in it deep pan and a big cooler.
