What to look for in 94/95 Cobra
An older guy who lives down the street from me is selling a 94 or 95 cobra with 95,000 miles for $7k. I know that its basically always been garaged and its only been a warm weather car because I can remember only seeing the BRIGHT red car rumble by my house in the summer. I'm pretty sure he's been the only owner as I remember this car from when I was a kid. Also, I'm going to assume its stock as he's not the type of guy I could picture doing anything to it.
When I get a chance this weekend, I'm gonna swing by his house and take a peek at it. What are some things to look for? I just picked up an 03GT myself, so everything I know is really in relation to the 4.6 and not the 5.0.
If I can negotiate the price a little (and convince my girlfriend her scion doesnt need to be garaged [:'(], I might have two stangs in the stables pretty soon.....

check the intake to make sure real and see if it has the cobra oil cooler on it too...i have a 95 cobra and a gt and i know the differences with them...and of course with the 95 models check the balancer...see if the stuff is coming out of it or ask if he changed it...other than that see if he did all the recalls if that one had them...mine had the hood recall and the seatbelt recalls..let me know if any questions

well if you want to negotiate the price, kbb value is only 5500 in excelent condition so yoou could use that to help... of course im sure he knows he could get more, but it will give you something to work off of... i got mine for 5000... i would definately make sure the brakes are good... i had to replace mine when i bought it and you are looking at about 3-500 bucks in parts for all cobra stuff..

I might be able to talk him down a little...especially since I'm the nice kid down the street right? haha
thanks for your help so far guys...
what about suspension? I mean I know its inmint shape body wise, especially for its age, but it is a 13+ year old car with decent miles on it...I'm just not sure how long the stock setup is good for....thoughts?
also, I know the 4.6 cobras have an IRS....but the 5.0 cobras have a solid rear correct?

cobras didnt get IRS till 99... so aparently you dont know as much about the 4.6's as you think you do

And yes the Solid rear was standard til 99.
90 some odd thousand isn't terrible mileage, but basic suspension parts should be replaced, like bushings, shocks, struts, tie rod ends, etc. This will make a huge difference in the ride and handling. Sometime when cars have not been "updated" and have a few miles on them, you get bad bump-steer, and just overall a crappy ride. Bushings and shocks/struts can be cheap, or can be expensive depending on what your plans are with the car. Good luck.

dude regardless, a 94 cobra is a cobra and 7k is really cheap, those are tough to find but red is the most common color in that car, again check the brakes and the recals, and make sure it is a real cobra, if so id pay 5800-6500 for it

wow man... i apologize for ADDERmk2... you will learn real fast to ignore him on this forum... likes to run his mouth with non relavent info a lot to keep his post count up... anyway back to our questions... yes the 94 cobra has a solid rear. the suspension should be fine. depends on the wether where you are... hell mine has no rust anywhere and i have 160k on it... you may have to do shocks and your basic go around with it, but its all part of the game... besides, the way i look at it... it just gives you an excuse to lower it a little bit ... as for having "decent miles"... 5.0's runs forever and a day if taken care of... theres plenty of us high milers on here that still hit the track every weekend... good luck on the purchase... sould be very easy to tell if its real... easiest way is to call your insurance company to get a quote, and they will run the vin for you... also a good idea to do this anyway before purchase because they will give you a free carfax...
