Ijust bought a 302, and the guy thinks it came from a89 fox. I just got done pulling one of the heads and one of my friends told me that the stock pistons were completely flat toped. These pistons are cut for valve relief( i think thats what its called) but i was just wondering if that was stock. Theyhave four slices on each pistons. Also i hear people talking about certain years having forged pistons just wondering if 89 was one of them. thanks for your time

89 HO would have forged flat tops with valve reliefs. The 86 HO has the forged F/T's with no reliefs.

i believe 86-92 had forged pistons, and 93-95 has hypereutectic? anyone else know? and yeah, the valve reliefs are there, but as long as the rest of the piston is flat its considered a flat top

stock 89 pistons should be dished with 4 valve reliefs
my current 91 has original pistons they are dished 4 valve reliefs as well
