86 gt auto tranny question
i just got an 86 gt convertible and it was leaking tranny fluid out of the tailshaft ...at first i was going to replace the seal but noticed there is alot of play in the output shaft itself...talked to a tranny guy that said my shaft bushing or bearing is bad....my question is ..if i remove the end cone what is involved in fixing it...any input would be great as this is my only car and is sitting on jackstands till i figure out what to do...thanx

RE: 86 gt auto tranny question
^^ +1 easiest way
the new bushing has to be pressed in, it's brass. if a tranny shop has the bushing have them give you a price if you bring in the tailshaft and they do it.
aod tailshaft pops right off, you'll need to prop the tranny alittle, pull the DS , then pop off the tail
if they want too much...find a used one and just replace the tail...i did that on my 'vert, the trans shop had it there...cost me $25 for the tailshaft w/ the bushing in it (old one but it was fine)

Go to the junk yard and ****** a output housing from a crown vic or other AOD car and swap it.
