4 Speed to T-5 Help
Man, its been a while since I have posted on here.
To the point though... I am trying to swap the 4 speed out of my 83 GT and put in a spare T-5 I have. The four speed is out and I have laid it next to the T-5. One noticeable difference is how the shifter comes out of the tranny. Will this be a problem for installing the T-5? Also, some of the connectors are slightly different. I know this seems vague, but I will provide pictures tonight when I get to my home computer. Does anyone have any experience/advice on this swap?
Thank you.

lol, no. an auto technically uses a flexplate. its ALOT different than a flywheel. and an automatic doesnt use a clutch, it has a torque converter. you will also need to install a pilot bearing(i think they are just a bronze bushing on these) in the rear of the crank for your t-5.

RE: 4 Speed to T-5 Help
I think I just assumed everyone knew I was talking about a "Manual" 4-speed. That, or I'm confused.
So, switching from a 4 speed manual to a 5 speed manual, I dont need a new clutch and flywheel do I? Also, the bellhousing came with the T-5, so I dont need a new one of those.
Any clarity would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure, but I think there are contradictory posts in here now.

OH, lol, i figure dyou were talking about the 4speed AOD that came in the cars.....yeah, no clue if you have to change them in that case. you owuld have to make sure the clutch splines fit on your new input shaft, and the pilot bearing fit. if so, i believe you'd be okay

RE: 4 Speed to T-5 Help
You cannot use the 10 inch flywheel clutch(what you have) with the t5 bell housing because of the way the SROD linkage works. You will need to replace both with a 10.5 inch flywheel and matching clutch.
