Default short throw shifter install

I'm trying to install a steeda tri ax shifter. I removed the 4 screws that hold the inner rubber shift boot plate but I can't remove the factory shift handle so I can pull out the rubber boot plate. The 2 screws just will not budge not matter how hard I pull and twist. It's like their glued in there. Has anyone else had this problem? What tools did you use to remove the screws? Need help! thanks

Are you installing the whole shifter? Or just the handle??

If you are pulling the whole shifter, I don't think that you even need to remove the handle...

I'm installing the whole shifter. I didn't think I would have to remove the handle either, thats why I went ahead and removed the four screws that hold the inner shift boot plate in place. But the handle has to be removed so that I can then pull the inner boot shift boot plate UP and out. With the handle there I can't pull it up. After it's out, I can then reach yet another 4 screws that attaches the actual shifter to the transmission.

They may be stiff, but like drhoward said, get yourself a longer ratchet/breaker bar and they shouldn't be a problem.
