Default cams and smog....

Ok wheres the deviding line on passing smog. I heard that the E cam will pass smog. And the B cam wont pass smog...or will it??? where the dividing line on passing smog, cause the e cam has more lift and less duration. and the B has less lift and more duration. so what wont make my car pass smog...having too much lift or too much duration. Also to put in a cam do I have to take off the front bumper( somone said i had to)? Ok I also have a/c. How do i install the cam if I have a/c. will i have to remove the condenser? So the big question is the E cam vs. the B cam. I still have to pass smog but I want the B cam. In need imput its driving me crazy trying to decide.

you must remove the fan and the A/C to install a cam from what I've heard. I'm not sure on the other questions.

Aight... I'm absolutely positive that the B cam WILL pass emisions, im not sure about the E cam but i dont see y it wouldnt. You dont have to take the front bumper off just remove the radiator and move the condenser out of the way. You dont need to disconnect ur a/c at all, just move the pump and condenser out of the way. About deciding... I think the e-cam works well with blown cars but it has a better idle and is more streetable. Personally, i went with the B-cam bc its better for low end torque. Its basically all personal preference. What ever you decide ull like the power increase.

according to the Ford parts catalog, the E303 cam is the only one that is emissions legal in California. none of the other cams (F, B, X, or Z) have the CA exemption number listed for them.

So i would also like to here more on this topic will they pass or what... I know a guy with the X cam and i belive he still passes but dont quote me...

Yea I dont care if it has card numbers, I want to know if it will pass in ca. The guys at the smog wont look for the cam, in fact in my city, when you do a smog its just at idle, they dont drive the car or put it on the dyno looking maching. they dont even check for smog pumps, they dont even open the hood. So will the B cam pass smog, I want a B but if it wont pass then ill get the E.So anyone with the B-cam will it pass, please let me know. also why will the E pass and the b not if that is correct. does the b have too much lift/ duration compared to the E???

there ain't no guarantees in life about any cam passing emissions, but for what it's worth, the E303 cam was tested and submitted by Ford to the CARB and it passed and got an exemption number. I don't know if they tested any of the other ones so I can't say if they will pass or not. Here are the specs for them:
E303 -duration @.050" 220/220, lift .498"/.498"
F303 - duration 226/226, lift .512"/.512"
B303 - duration 224/224, lift .480"/.480"
X303 - duration 224/224. lift .542"/.542"
Z303 - duration 228/228, lift .552"/.552"
My guess is the lower duration on the E cam is why it passed but I'm no expert!

No actually the only reason the e passes is because of the carb number. I will pass with the B if I tell the guy its stock cam. he wont look for the carb number, so it B for me.
