Mine did the same thing for a while, I figured somehting was sticking, so I drained most of the oil out, poured a gallon of kerosine into the crankcase, ran the engine til it warmed up, then drained it all and put new oil and filter. You should have seen how much **** came out.. I recommend doing that... kerosine is only 8$ or so anyway. My tick is gone now.

RE: still tickin......WTF!?!?!?
First Post...I had a ticking noise that drove me crazy.. Starting was not a problem and driveability seemed to be fine. Lost a little on the accerlation. But that lil ticking was killing all day...When I got home, I pulled the plugs thinking that is what was causing the loss power. I did a compression test. I lost compression in the number 3.Now, by the way was car was idling and no smoke I was lost. Finally, I pulled the valve cover and there is was. I broke a spring. Changed it out and tick went away.
You may not have the same tick but I figured I would tell about mine issue, just in case..

Didn't read ALL the replies here but Is the car an auto or stick? If stick put light pressure on the clutch pedal and see if it goes away. The throwout bearing is NOTORIOUS for mimicing valvetrain noise.
