351? or rebuild?

351? or rebuild?
My mechanic has a 351 short block with TRW (something like that) pistons plus a cam with 226 duration. He wants 800 for it. And he'll throw in a GT-40 intake for 400. Should I take the engine w/ or w/o the intake and get a better intake or should I just rebuild my stock 5.0. Which would be cheaper and would give me best life.

RE: 351? or rebuild?
Cheaper: stick with the 8.2" deck (302), If you go with the 351 (9.5" deck)there are other things you are going to have to buy to get it to fit in the car (exhaust, oil pan, flywheel- 28oz) It's not a drop in. Here's another thing, a properly built 347 (8.2" deck) will open a can of woop a$$ on a stock stroke 351 with the same parts.

go 351!! no replacement for displacement..sure it'll cost a few beans for the extra stuff..but the power will be worth it over a 302...and the gt-40 intake?? if it's for a 302 it won't work on the 351

RE: 351? or rebuild?
no heads yet, the intake upper is the gt-40, idk about lower. im not factoring heads into cost because im going to get new heads for 302 if i stick with it, so same cost there regardless. and im buying 24# injectors regardless of 302 or 351. i have another question to add that i forgot, what size fuel pump will i need for 24# injectors? and the cam is 226 duration, is that good?
