Default Tranny Thoughts

I have a carb 302 backed by a t-5 but i wanna go auto. Im more of the street driver so would an aod trans with shift kit and like a 3000 stall be good, or do you think the c-4 with shift kit and 3000 stall would be just as fine for street use and little highway use? And also i have 3.55 in the rear, do you think thats a good all around gear or should i go alittle taller?

your more of a street driver and want a 3000 stall and shift kit???..sounds like a strip set up?? redefine goals so we can better help.........stall depends on motor build ..what does the build consist of??and if you do highway driving aod will be the best choice as you'll have an overdrive

well the motor is a 331 storker, i know the c4 would be the best, so actually im asking is an aod good to go with if its built up? i know the aod's are kinda sluggish so is there anything to fix and what would be a good stall? or should i just say screw the aod and stick with the c4

If you don't care about fuel mileage, I would go with the C-4, and not have to screw with the TV crap. The AOD can handle a fair amount of hp, but they are a royal pain to get right. C-4s are cheaper, the converters are cheaper, and theyhold up better. That being said, I just installed a new AOD in mine (3rd one in 1-3/4 years). This one hasthe Alto red clutches, Kolene steels, Kevlar band, A+ servo, Redneck 9"3300rpm converteralong with a Baumann shift kit. So far so good (2 weeks now)

If you are going to dump money, do it right and do a 4R70W conversion.
Why on earth would you want a 3 speed C4? It's not 1967 anymore.

I've found good used 96-98 units for $200. Ready to drive.
Carry in rebuild will run $900 including stock remanufactured converter and updated V8 clutch drum.
The computer (TCS) from www.becontrols.com is $425

I did the swap into my 94 GT using:
96 TBird wrecked,V6 4R70W tranny. Lucky find. Ford Warranty installed unit with 10,000 miles on it and 98 level parts inside. $200 and the guy helped set it in my trunk.
Baumann shift recal kit. $125
Baumann TCS. $425
12 qts Mercon V $50

You need the slip yoke that comes with the tranny.
You need the 164 tooth flexplate also used by the AOD tranny.
You need a 94 and up shifter.

If you are serious I have more info and pics.
