I have a 1988 mustang gt and i just got it a few months ago, the problem im having is that is wont start after i drive it a few miles and the car warms up. when i go to start it again the starter is having a really really hard time turning the motor over and eventually just doesnt do anything, i can roll and jump start it. it start perfectly fine when it is cold...any ideas?

if you have a stock exhaust and don't have full length headers that wrap around the starter...first thing I'd check are all the connections and after that check for voltage drop on the wire down to the starter and if all is okay ..replace the starter...windings may have high resistance in them and as engine heats up....surrounding heat in bay is also absorbed by starter and heat soak to the starter will up the resistance factor and reistance will cause most likely the internal voltage drop in the starter= slow crank on hot start.......but make sure battery is good and passes a load test too

hmm i have an 89 gt, and you know what im fighting the same problem right now. It used to just do every once in a while i would drive some where and stop and park and come back out and try to start it. i would turn the key and it would turn the motor over so slowly like had a dead battery or something but that wasnt the case. And now its been parked for like a month and the battery is fine. Ill go to start it and it will start up fine once. but if it dies cause the car is cold and hasnt been driven it will not start again. i try jumping it but it doesnt seem to help. SO if anyone knows anything let us know..
sounds like a dead battery but there is something else going on..

go from easiest to check to harder:
check all electrical connections in the starter curciut. clean and then re- tighten. many times the problem is a poor/faulty ground, so look there real good.
check the timing. my 90 was set at 12* and was hard to start warm on hot days. at 10* it was better. i cleaned the battery terminals and it was good. which one was it? IDK.
then tackle the starter.

I dont know if this will help but my brothers 87 lx did the same thing come to find out that the dual oil filters were mounted to close to the coil and causing it to get way to hot and it deteriatied it and also he had a yellow top optima battery which like a deep cell battery and it wasnt charging all the way with the stock alternator.
