Sounds like a low voltage problem. Perhaps the battery is shorted internally.
And for the record, I have always had good luck with Duralast alternators. The Napa ones always seem to have bad regulators and the lights flicker all of the time.

well she installed a duralast gold one, which is good since they have a two year warrenty, the back firing seems to be gone and the cars running better
she says it shfts better but idk about that, ill have to see tonight
