Default charge problem

heres my situation..

i removed my air silencer, it was easy to get off the fender but to get out of the car was a struggle, i finally squeezed it out from under the fender

when i went to start my car, i just had a click.. dead
tried again..same thing
tried again..fired up, so i kept trying and it kept firing up, so all was dandy
today at work i went to leave.. same thing, then it fires up fine...
tonight i was in a parking lot at idle and my battery guage was going weird..up then down.. so i revved it up and the guage shot up nice and high and my lights got a lot brighter... im losing charge somewhere? please help guys...

starter solenoid, or bad ground, also check that your connections on the battery terminals are clean and tight, but prolly starter solenoid going bad.

how would the starter solenoid affect my charge at idle? that sounds like alternator problems.. im pretty sure i must of messed up something near the pass. fender because i had a hell of itme getting the silencer out and probably messed up a wire

i was just out there and popped the hood and my father watched the engine, i started it, the charge dropped big again.. he said turn off the a/c (he thinks he heard it) but i think he heard the leaking smog pump lines. i never had the a/c on.. but the heat was on, i shut it off and it was fine.....weird?! why would my heat affect this...

when you said you had a click that sound usually means starter or something, why don't you take it to advanceauto parts and have them test your battery and alt for free, that should give you a better clue on what the weakest link is.

check the plug in connections on the alternator to make sure you didn't knock one of them loose when you were over there messing around. I would also say to check the connections on the hot side of the starter solenoid to make sure they are clean and tight and free from corrosion too. same thing for the starter side of the solenoid and the connection at the starter itself and the ground cable where it attaches to the engine block.
