GT40 Thunderbird

A guy is driving around with a 5.0 thunderbird that he claims is in the mid 13s. He says all he has is the GT40 aluminum heads, cobra intake, 1.7 roler rockers, and aF cam. He says that he gets about 300whp with all the supporting mods. I was under the impression that the GT40 top end was good for abot 270-280 whp. Could this guy be telling the truth or is he overestimating his cars power.

All he can do is guess if it hasnt been dynoed. Get his time slip and factor in the weight of the car, tire's, gears, etc...etc... Thay will give you a better idea of many horse's he may have. HP mean's nothing though, it's all about the track times and more importantly the mph to see what the caris capable ofrunning.

That sounds a bit high, but it is possible. My stang dynoed 306 to the ground, but I got it bored .10 over on a rebuild too. Thats including H/C/I N.A. with 24 Lb injectors. I've seen pretty good results with a good tune, but the only T-birds I'm really familiar with are the Super Coupes.

you can do 300 rwhp w/ iron 40's and he has aluminum...i'd guess him to be closer to 320 w/ some work

my buddy did iron 40's hardly ported, tubular 40 intake, 125 dry shot, 4.10's and long tubes on a '92 GT

he went 11.60's or 11.80's....but right there. ultimately went 11.60's but i forget what other changes he made...also trans swap , but he broke in the 11's on that setup

so he's telling the truth....i think underestimating too.

i am a very big gt40 fan...always will be

my edelbrocks come back in 1 week....i'll be doing those w. a gt40 tubular, and stock everything else for now til i stroke it.

i'll get numbers as soon as it's done, it'll be stock cammed w/ 1.7's squirting 80 for starters, possibly bumping to 125 tops
