not looking for nos. I'm more interested in heads/intake/cams or whatever... or an engine swap if it's affordable. I've got a guy who can do labor pretty cheap.

Well with that kind of loot I would recommend the cheaper of the best heads, the gt40's...As for intake its all preferance, if you are on a budjet and need a cheaper version of the edelbrock performer 2 intake, but with all the power, then you can get a typhoon intake by blueovalindustries.com Other good one is cobra intake and of coarse the edelbrock series. Remember not to get polished because thats $100 extra bucks right there. As for cam Thats also preference but I'd go with E303 cam if you plan on it to be a street racer. Cam is not that expensive so dont worry about that one.

You gotta ask yourself what will it be .........drag racer or daily driver
if it is a drag racer car then first of all get rid of the things that you will not need stock and make some money back...then go with k&n air filter, gears, exhaust, better front swaybar, battery relocate kit and roll cage
if it is going to be a daily driver....again better gears, exhaust, k&n air filter, maybe cold air induction system if k&n isn't good for you, etc.
IMPORTANT: LEARN TO DO THE STUFF YOURSELF BECAUSE YOU WILL PAY A TON FOR LABOR AT THESE SHOPS...PICKUP A BOOK AND START LEARNING OR ASK FRIENDS TO HELP....LESS LABOR MEANS MORE BOLT ONS THAT YOU CAN AFFORD

I'm with fastpony, gears, exhaust, cold air intake, Also underdrive pullies, mass air and tb. 4 of those things you can do on your own and save your self some money. The gears and the exhaust (depends on what you get) you have to have a shop do it. Oh on the gears get 3.55 or 3.73.

I've got FRPP 3.73 gears, 30 lb FRPP injectors, 85mm pro-M MAM, 65mm stock 02 GT TB, stock 02 GT h-pipe.... they are all take offs from my 02 and just collecting dust right now... will any of those work with the notch?
