is this the smog canister?
there is some kind of canister hanging on the front passenger side on my stang. my smog pump and cats are gone so i can remove this right? it's about 6-7 inches tall and its got to plug things on the top of it. one of the cables runs through the fender close to the firewall and the other runs into the upper intale manifold. so can i remove it? what do i plug the holes with?

RE: is this the smog canister?
That is just a carbon canister, I have mine unhooked because I broke the line to the upper manifold when I pulled the engine. The only thing it does is catch the unburnt fuel and pumps it back into the engine to reburn it. Use a couple of vacuume plugs to cap the lines off when you pull it out

The line that goes into the fender goes to this thing that looks like a big black softball, i believe its a vacuum canister of some sort, there is a big one and a small one, not sure there purpose or what they do, curious to know though

One of the lines that run into the fender are the vent for the gas tank, if you plug it you may run into fuel delivery issues without a vented cap or so I was told by a reputable local Ford mechanic.
I left mine open and unplugged with no adverse effects and no gas smell.
