Tremec 3550 equipped SN95. Should I buy?
I found this. A 94 Mustang GT. Its a manual. He wants 3,000. It has a full new 2.5 inch flowmaster exhaust with no cats. He took 500 off of the price so I can add cats and smog it to make it legal. It needs rear suspension. Has a recently installed Tremec 3550? Transmission, the one off of the 95 cobra R. Center force clutch. New brakes, new tires, 03 mach 1 rims. Includes old rims. Cold air Intake. Has 147,000 miles. Cobra hood. New paint on hood and roof. Missing a deck, a few trim pieces, like a tweeter cover, the the things that go under the doors on the floor area...the piece on top of the rear seat etc... Driver door lock sticks. I already have a deck in my wrecked fox. Sounds really sweet. Book is 2500. I am just wondering if the transmission swap even really adds anything to the value of the car. Plus, I know hes taking off 500 for the cats to be installed, but is there a way to go get it checked before installing the cats at the smog place to see if they think it will pass with cats on? I dunno. Just don't want to buy a problem It has no CEL's. It does have the airbag light, he said it was when he was putting the dash back together.

This sounds a little strange. almost sounds like its been in a wreck to me, with the bad suspension and the "puttin the dash back in" story, as well as a illegal exhaust, sounds like a hack job to me. honestly id keep lookin, im sure theres others out there. but thats just my oppinion.

No. He has full exhaust installed purposefully. The dash he had apart messing with the headlight switch I think. The bad back suspension is just old. Front bumper has never been painted, he wanted to later update the look with the cobra hood and add a cobra bumper. He is going 300 miles down south for 7 months to California Highway Patrol school and has no where to put it. So, he's selling it. I will pull carfax soon. But mainly, this is a question about the smog and the transmission. Thanks!

Well im from the eastcoast so im familiar with smog but i do know the tranny will add a lil to the car value. at least you know youll have a fairly new tranny that hasnt been beaten on yet. well good luck man!!

3000 isn't a bad price if it's not all beat up and that tranny is a 1300 to 1500 dollar tranny when new ...if it were mine.. I'd find a 94-95 t-5 and put it in and pull that tremec out and sell it to me

Lol. Yeah. I just do not think the tremec will handle what I wan to throw at it. I plan on about 400-500 hp. That was the plan with the fox. I found a 99 with a whole new engine for 4,000, some scratches and dents but not too bad. Thinking I might go with the 4.6....Dunno. I kinda am thinking I dont want someones old project. Problems suck. Hes telling me that the clutch needs to be adjusted because the fork is hitting something or something...Dunno. Maybe he did leave the airbag unplugged. Dunno. For all the problems Im thinking 2500 might be more fair.

it's a decent deal, i'd worry about the airbag light at least see whats wrong w/ it
the trans is good , middle of the road, at 500 hp, just don't launch on slicks at 5k and you'll be fine
hi flow catted h-pipe is about $500...and you could sell the offroad for a little. not much though.
if you talk to some smog shops, they could put the sniffe rpipe on it, but not run the program...do you need to do the dyno in eureka ? when i lived in fresno you did, also SF and LA , but my '89 would have passed the sniffer w/ offroad, long tubes, and no smog pump
i'd get it
