Default stock crank

i am wanting to build a good bottom end to hold about 500-600 hp but dont want to spend 1200+ on a stroker kit would would like to keep a 302 ci (or 306) but has anyone use the stock crank with some good rods and pistons had them balanced and how has it been working for you? was looking at some eagle rods and je pistons and thinking about getting them and sending them off with a early style balancer and flywheel to get internally balanced. lmk what you guys have done and experienced.

You'd be hard pressed to get 5-600 hp out of a 302 unless going FI. The stock block will not hold together for very long. What's your plan for making that kinda hp with a 302?

The stock crank is fine for a 302, if it's balanced properly, the block will fail before the crank.

to get those numbers out of a 302..you'll need the bottle!!! and or boost..and it may go or it may blow....get a reliable block... if you want reliable 500+hp you need to spend money cause you'll get what you pay for[sm=patriot.gif] kabooooooooooooom

well right now i am gonna put a 150 shot on it but have located a novi charger im looking into buying which with my heads and about 8lbs boost should put me close to 500 hp with a good tune. i know the stock bottom end will hold for hold long no one knows. i did rebuilt it it has a NEW summit 302 block, factory trw pistons, factory rods with 3/8 arp rod bolts resized, stock crank been turn 10-10, arp main bolts. its a nice bottom end but wouldlike to build a better one adn sell the current.my plan was to build a .030 over buy some good pistons (je, probe, etc what ever i can get a deal on at the time) found some new eagle rods with arp bolts and use a stock crank and get an older style balancer and flywheel and send it all off to get it internally balanced instead of externally. also i have been told they can remove the weight on my current 50 oz balance flywheel and use it is this correct? after all this i was thinking this should be good for about 600. if i could get 450 ish at the wheels i would be happy for now and feel safe that my bottome end wont scatter on me.

be prepared to spend 400-500 dollars to internally balance a stock cast 50oz crank. It will need a bunch of mallory metal to go internal. Probably the single biggest waste of money

well i was looking into getting an older 28 oz crank i have located one but that was my next question are they very strong? as good as the 50 oz cranks? ive heard it both ways. im trying to weigh my options i would rather not stroke it as cuz i know the block wont hold much 500 600 maybe i plan on adding a girdle and have been looking into valley girdles.

it will still cost 200-300 to tinternally balance a stock 28oz crank, depending onthe piston and rod used. Stroking it will makw more hp/tq at a lower rpm than a 302, rpm is what kills all parts and both those girdles will not keep a block from splitting in half.

yea but ive called and every shop charges to balance a stroker assembly is 250 so im looking at the same price there. either way im gonna have to get the rotating assembly balanced.was just wondering if maybe the older cranks are any better i know the older non roller blocks are a little stronger as per the nickle content in the metal. i have a buddy with a i believe its a mid to late 70's block i thought about getting it and just converting to roller. the girdles will help. like i said 450 i will be happy as this is my dd and i need reliability

ok with all that being said i know there is gonna be a lot of work involved do you think my current bottom end will hold 450 reliabily? im just concerened with the rods and pistons. it seems here lately if seen more slung rods than broke cranks.
