Default Fuel Filter Change

Hey guys,

I have an 86 Gt and we did the tune up + fluid change yesterday. She runs alot smoother but still needs a little throttle to start. What could cause this? I was told since the fuel filters pretty old it could be limiting fuel from getting to the engine at first. so I have a new fuel filter but I don't know were or how to install it. Can someone give me a step by step "how to" for this? lol Also, does the car have to be on ramps or somethin? I did the oil and trans fluid change with it on ramps(obviously) but do I need it on ramps to put in the fuel filter?

Also should I run some of that injector/fuel system cleaner that goes in with your gas? The car spent alot of the last 2 years sitting so... But yeah could that hesitance to start, unless I pump the throttle a bit, be caused by a clogged/dirty fuel system?

Thanks,
Tony[/align]

the fuel filter should be on the right side right behind or maybe beside the gas tank. i think just a couple of clips hold it on and you might need to put it on ramps or jack stands to be able to get to it more easily!

Just replaced the fuel filter on my 88. It was in front of the fuel tank directly above the rear axle towards the right side.

Well, I did it. I got a small shower of gas, but nothin major. It just poured down my arm. Goggles were a given. lol I was glad to see that my new filter came with new duck clips too. It all wen't in pretty nice. The car sits at stock height so I just kinda slithered under there. lol It was a tight fit but I did it. I'm 99% sure the filter'sgoing the right direction. If it weren't would the car even start? Cause the car starts up just fine. And it drives fine too. If anything i'll just get back under there later and verify.

The engine will run whether the filter is in right or wrong, just won't filter properly if its installed backwards. Always better to double check something like that if theres any doubt anyways, if its in backwards and any crap from your tank gets through and into the line the fun begins.(I've replaced the fuel rails on mine and its a job you don't want)[:'(]

if it won't start right away then I'd perform a fuel pressure test and see if leak down occurs ar rest..pump may have a bad check valve

My 95 GT is taking alittle longer to start than normal. This after a tune up, new fuel injectors. Do you think my fuel filter needs to be changed also and is it in the same place?

Thanks
Scott
