depends on the degree of mod/overhaul vs performance gain desired if any...summit racing has tons of kits

if you are looking to get 450hp or better then toss out your block as well those things split open at around 400hp

RPM is the primary block splitter, not horse power.

pilotdreams, just as mjr46 stated it depends on what mod/overhaul vs performance gain you desire and what components you wants (full rotating assem., pistons and bearing,). What are you looking to get and obtain for performance.

probably he's looking for the same thing we all want: a reliable setup pumping out 500 HP for cheap.

Yeah, Summit racing how could I have forgotten about them. So many options, I'm going to have to do alot of researching. I have only rebuilt lycoming engines, air cooled aircraft ones. This seems a little more complex. 300hp would be ideal.

If your looking for 300 rwhp.. then a decent head choice with a matched cam and intake and all supporting mods like exhaust , fuel system and gears will bring you close to your ideal goal

yeah while you could reach your goal with a good hci and bolt ons if you were to rebuild your motor now then it would be much more reliable.

Summit has nice rebuild kits, i have one sitting in my basement waiting to be asembled in my new block but everything looks nice and it was like 800+ dollars for the 306 kit and they even have a 347 if that floats your boat.
