California Legal Cat Converters? HELP!
Hello Everyone,
I just bought a 1994 5.0 GT convertible and live in California. I bought the car from a police officer and it has no license plates. I went to DMV to change the title into my name, get registration, etc., but I need to pass California smog before they will issue me a set of plates. Currently all I have is a temporary sticker on my front windshield that gives me until the end of June to pass smog. The problem is I keep getting pulled over because the car has no plates and it is a hassle. I can not pass smog because my car does not have any cat. converters in it but it does have headers. Any recommendations on some affordable cats I can install on the car that will not hender the performance all that much and will allow me to pass CA smog? I see all kinds of cat converters on Ebay for about $30 each but supposedly none of them will work for passing CA smog. Also from what I understand the car originally came with four cat converters, can I get by with two aftermarket cats? If so I can just weld them in place and leave the air line capped off or do I need to run anything to the small tube hanging off the side of the aftermarket cats? Forgive me, I am really stupid when it comes to these things as I only have experience in building antique hot rods that are exempt from smog requirements. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much,
