Default Sounds like belt squeal, clutch problem?

Hey, I've got a 94 GT 5.0 and at idle it sounds like a belt is squealing. When I pop the hood it doesn't sound like its coming from the front of the engine, where the belt is, and whenever I press the clutch the squealing stops. I don't have the push the clutch in far at all, not nearly enough to change gears, just a slight pressure on the pedal. Has anyone had this problem or know what it might be? Thanks.

Sounds like a bad throwout bearing.

How could I check for that, how hard would it be to fix it myself, and if I can't do it myself how much would I be looking to spend if that was the problem?

You have to pull the transmission to replace it. I would go ahead and do the whole clutch assembly if you have it apart.

Get under the car and see if the sound is coming from the bellhousing area. If so, then it is more than likely the throwout bearing.

Ok, I'll check that out tomorrow when its light out again, thanks. If that is the problem, how long do I have until it needs to be changed? I know you can't say exactly, but average.

It may last a long time or it could lock up anyday. Hard to say for sure. I'd say it will go for awhile, but I would look into getting it changed as soon as you are able to if that is the problem.
