NEW 5.0 Owner with high hopes
Hello All,
My bro-in-law just traded his 94 5.0 GT to me for my 4runner... It seems to be in rough shape but I took it in on a kind heart...
Where to start...
I haven't ever been into big block performance and have basic experience modding but I think I'm gonna pull apart the motor to a good degree. Gonna change the heads for sure, everything in between and go from there.
Right now he has got:
BBK 80mm TB (do they get that big?)
BBK Cold air
Pulley Kit
Don't know what advise you might have, but let loose... I'll have to spend a month or so researching as most of my expertise is in my 2.4L Lancer Ralliart... Was thinking of going custom turbo but with a gas guzzling stang in my possession, I might as well throw away the big dollas...
Anyways, I'm sure I will be in touch,
Hello for now, anything you can bring me up to speed on now would help me ALOT as I know nothing of this motor or any known associates.

w/ 5.0 cars you kind of give up handling for drag racing.... so depending on your plans for it.......
as a drag racing setup, the best few mods you can do are these:
1) gears (i like 4.10's)
2) sticky tires (i like et streets)
3) hpm megabite jr lower control arms
4) nitrous (squirt 75 on it for a little extra fun)
at this point...you should see 12's and make about 300hp on the juice, low 13's on the motor
5) heads/cam/intake
lots of choices..if money is no issue go w/ the best out there , probbaly afr/trickflow stuff
if money is an issue you can go fast w/ cheaper older parts...just gotta do it right.
i have friends who have gone 11's on iron cobra gt40 heads w/ mild port work, 125 shot of nitrous, 4.10's and unported gt40 intake(tubular)
edelbrock , gt40 and others are great heads....just need a little work but for what you can buy them for used, you will have a better head for roughly the same or less than box stock afr's
the exhaust is the biggie , port and polish them, the intakes need to be cleaned up in the turns...str8'ned out a little, comp valve job, and thats about it. expect $400-$500 but you will double your gain, port the lower intake to match the heads , should be about $150 and if you squirt on top of that you'll see 11's and hit about 400 hp, running 12's on motor making about 325
if you wanna road race ??? i have no idea , it's not my gig
