If there's slack in the cable then it's time for a replacement. You might get away with adjusting it though.

Oh and Keek89gt, what do you mean you don't use a clutch when shifting. That's your problem right there then, rpm matching puts uneccessary wear on your gears and if you're grinding then try using the clucth that's provided in your car for a reason.

lol, yeah, yo ucan shift w/o a clutch, but come on man, push the clutch in next time you drive and see if the problem goes away

every mustang I know does that & every mustang i know doesnt' do it if you push the clutch in, push it into 1st, then into reverse.

I adjusted the clutch and now it's only grinding in 3rd. I'll prolly adjust it some more and see if it goes away. Also the clutch pedal is way softer now too.
