Default Timing issue advice

I have a 1990 GT and i was driving home the other day from work and I heard a knock coming from the valves when I accelerated and a loss of power as well.At first I thought it was a lifter but I turned the distributor and retarded the timing and the knock is gone. Valve rattling right? Anywhoo, shestill accelerates like the hand brake is held down. It bogs when accelerating. I'm thinking that maybe the timing chain jumped a tooth perhaps? Any advice would be greatly appreciated before I dig into the engine again. =)

Thursday I'll be able to put a timing light and set it to 10*. I'm also going to put some 93 octane with some octane booster just in case i just got ahold of some bad gas along with some injector cleaner. (cross fingers) "if" the problem is still there after it's set back to 10 what would you recommend? I'm trying to get all the info I can in advance for obvious reasons. Once again thanks!

Factory timing of 10* should be run with 87 oct. Also, I read octane boosters are worthless cause of the low compression of the 5.0 engine.
